Introduction
A film development companion app that provides precise timing control and guided workflows for film developers. It simplifies each step with clear, color-coded instructions, allowing users to adjust settings easily and ensure precision throughout the development.
OVERVIEW

BACKGROUND

Expanding Market on Film Photography
By 2023, Leica's sales of film cameras had increased tenfold from 2015, indicating a substantial rise in the popularity of analog photography. Moreover, a PetaPixel survey revealed that 76% of participants were keen on seeing advancements in analog related products and services, like enhanced home film development methods.
Time is Important
The film developing process requiring photographers to manage various factors such as water temperature, chemical mixtures, and exposure settings. Timing is one of the most critical aspects, as even a small deviation can affect the final result.

RESEARCH
Understanding Film Development Timing
To refine the Filmflow experience, I explored how film development timers structure their workflows, focusing on how they present timing and agitation steps for users.

Competitive Analysis
To gain a deeper understanding of film development, I began my research with a competitive analysis to explore how existing solutions present information and manage timing for their users.

Interviews
By conducting interviews with photographers who actively develop their own film, I gained valuable insights into their processes and pain points.

Key Takeaways

DEVELOPMENT
Ideation
I analyzed both digital and traditional timers to understand their task flows and essential features. This research helped identify a balanced approach that optimizes usability and enhances the film development process.

Moodboard
Inspired by my favorite camera brands, Leica and Hasselblad, I built this mood board with a black and white color scheme to emphasize the simplicity both brands embody. I aimed to incorporate elements reminiscent of a traditional film developing timer, creating an app with a timeless, classic user interface.

Wireframe
To establish the main user flows, I created wireframes for each key task: Home, Start a Timer, Revise a Timer. By experimenting with layout, color-coding, and task sequencing, I wanted to ensure that users could easily navigate film selection, ISO settings, and development steps.

Color
I designed a color-coded step system to guide users through the film development process with clear visual cues. Each color represents a specific stage—agitation, waiting, and preparation—helping users track progress easily and avoid mistakes.
